Junior forward Allie Cozzone (18 - Chagrin Falls/Kenston) scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute and sophomore forward Caitlin Logan (9 - Findlay) added a goal and an assist as Ohio Wesleyan blanked Hiram in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at Roy Rike Field.
Cozzone cashed in on the Bishops' first good scoring chance of the game, advancing the ball down the right side, turning the corner and beating a Hiram defender before blasting a shot into the back of the Terrier net.
Cozzone figured in Ohio Wesleyan's next dangerous chance, sending a through ball to senior forward Meredith Gerrick (19 - Durham, N.C./Indianapolis (Ind.) North Central), who was off on a breakaway, but Gerrick's shot hooked outside the right post.
The Bishops had another good chance later in the half when sophomore midfielder Megan Goodrich (Seven Hills/Laurel School) sent a restart to the mouth of the Hiram goal, but Terrier keeper Emily Bristol was there to stop the shot.
Bristol kept the score at 1-0 again early in the second half, coming off the goal line to make an outstanding play on a breakaway by Ohio Wesleyan junior forward Michelle Corbett (Dublin/Scioto) in the 55th minute.
Gerrick set up the Bishops' second goal, sending a crossing pass in from the right side to Logan, who finished off the chance near the left post in the 63rd minute.
Logan then helped wrap up the evening's scoring by centering the ball from the left side to sophomore forward Meghan Cahoon (Montpelier, Vt.), who chipped the ball over Bristol and under the crossbar in the 74th minute. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Hiram, 28-2. Freshman Laura VanHoey (31- Rochester, Mich.) was not tested in posting her first collegiate shutout. Bristol finished with 7 saves in the Hiram goal.
