Gators Fall to Ohio Wesleyan

Oct 6 - MEADVILLE, Pa. - A late second half goal was the undoing for the Gators (3-6-2, 1-1 NCAC), as Allegheny fell 1-0 to Ohio Wesleyan (6-3-3, 2-0-1 NCAC) at Robertson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Most of the first half action took place in between the 20s, as neither team was able to generate a serious offensive threat. At the break, Allegheny attempted only three shots compared to four by the Bishops. The Gators had the period’s only shot on goal.

It wasn't until the 71st minute when the Gators had the first real opportunity of the game, but a shot by Jessica Boyle (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) ran just wide of a vacated net, keeping the game scoreless.   Allegheny threatened again in the 80th minute when a shot by Kristen White (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) was turned away by a diving save from Ohio Wesleyan goalie Ali Gary (1).

The Gators continued to pressure, but it was one Ohio Wesleyan possession that would ultimately decide the game. After withstanding another Gator attack, the Bishops gained control of the ball and scored when Michelle Gorbett (4) found the back of the net following a scramble in front of the goal at the 84:44 mark of the contest.

Overall, the numbers were pretty even, as both teams attempted nine shots while the Gators totaled five corner kicks to only three for the Bishops. Kelsie Mozzoni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) picked up two saves in net while Gary recorded five stops for the Bishops. Allegheny next hosts Wooster on Wednesday, October 10 – action is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
