GAMBIER, Ohio -- (September 29, 2007) Trailing by two goals past the midway mark of Saturday's soccer game, the Kenyon College Ladies rallied to knot things up and earn a 2-2 draw with the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. The game was the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The tie was a step in the right direction for the Ladies, who fell to the Bishops, 1-0, last season.
It also moved the Ladies' overall record to 4-3-2 and bumped Ohio Wesleyan's overall record to 4-3-3.
Junior Michelle Corbett (4) scored both of the Ohio Wesleyan goals. She netted her first when she was able to boot home a loose ball that got away from Kenyon goalkeeper Rosie Davis (Decatur, GA/Decatur). Her second came on a breakaway early in the second half.
That left the Ladies in a hole, but they quickly began to climb out. Just a little more than five minutes after Corbett's second goal, Kenyon sophomore Beth Blackey (Versailles, KY/Sayre School) took a pass from junior Amy Kessler (Bowling Green, OH/St. Ursula Academy) and fired it past OWU keeper Ali Gary (1). In the game's 74th minute, Kessler set up another Kenyon goal. This time it was freshman Katie Fee (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) on the receiving end. Fee took the pass in the box and rang up her first collegiate goal. Kenyon outshot Ohio Wesleyan 21-13 throughout the game, but failed to threaten in the overtime periods and settled for the tie.
